Talks Underway to Buy 10 New Aircraft for Kish Air

Kish Island, February 13, 2016 - Managing Director of Kish Free Zone Organization Dr. Ali Asghar Mounesan says KFZO is in talks with Airbus Company over purchasing 10 new airplanes for Kish Air.

According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of Kish Free Zone Organization, during the talks, representatives from Airbus briefed KFZO officials on two new models of aircraft manufactured by the French company including Neo 320 and Neo 321.

During the meeting representatives from Airbus voiced the company's full preparedness to collaborate with KFZO in preparing the ground for signing a purchase contract and prompt delivery of aircraft to Kish Free Zone Organization, said Dr. Mounesan.

Dr. Mounesan pointed to the Iranian government's efforts to buy new planes to revamp the country's aging fleet and said buying new aircraft tops the government's development plans during the post-sanctions era.

Dr. Mounesan also said KFZO plans to modernize Kish International Airport as part of efforts to develop the infrastructure in the Persian Gulf Island to attract more tourists from across the world.

"Currently, 1.7 million tourists visit Kish island annually. Following the removal of anti-Iran sanctions, the figure is expected to rise to 6 million people per year within the upcoming decade. That's why modernizing Kish aviation fleet is of great significance in promoting tourism industry in the Persian Gulf island," Dr. Mounesan reiterated.

Given its strategic location in the regional flight corridor, said Dr. Mounesan, Kish island can turn into a regional airline hub and offer more competitive aviation services in the region.
