Kish Ready to Host Kiteboarding World Championship

Kish Island, May 2, 2017- Kish Free Zone Organization managing director has announced that Kish is ready to host Kiteboarding World Championships.

According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of Kish Free Zone Organization, Akbar Torkan, the Secretary of the High Council of Free Zones, along with Dr. Mounesan, the CEO of Kish Free Zone Organization paid a visit to various sections of Kish Water Sports Park (Wibit) on April 27.

Dr. Mounesan pointed out the valuable potentials of developing recreation and water sports in the region and said following the visit of the president of International Kiteboarding Association and his suggestion to hold 2018 kiteboarding championships, we welcome holding of this joyful and fun sporting event on Kish Island.

"Having provided the necessary infrastructures and appropriate accommodation and catering facilities as well as the proper private sector investment, Kish can turn into an ideal hub for international beach and water championships" KFZO chief reiterated.

The president of International Kiteboarding Association (IKA), Mirco Babini, visited the training course for kiteboarding coaches while they were being held in Wibit last March, he praised Kish Island Potentials and facilities and evaluated them as suitable for hosting the world sailing competitions.

This water sport park is located on the seabed with an area of over 2 thousand square meters of land and water polo and volleyball fields, it has the capacity for 140 people who are interested in recreation and marine sports.

Kiteboarding is a surface water sport combining aspects of wakeboarding, snowboarding, windsurfing, surfing, paragliding, skateboarding and gymnastics into one extreme sport. A kite boarder harnesses the power of the wind with a large controllable power kite to be propelled across the water on a kiteboard similar to a wakeboard or a small surfboard, with or without foot straps or bindings.
