Kish Port Eyes 15-Million Ton Transport Capacity

Kish Island, February 12, 2015- A senior advisor to Iran’s president says the overall loading and unloading capacity of Kish Port will increase to 15 million tons by 2025.

According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of Kish Free Zone Organization, Akbar Torkan said Iran’s total port capacity is expected to reach 100 million tons in the 10 year period, out of which, 5% will be allocated to Kish Island.

The secretary of the Supreme Council of Iran’s Free and Special Economic Zones said three 50-thousand ton ports should be built in the western part of Kish port within 10 years.

Torkan reiterated that the loading and unloading capacity of Kish port has already reached three million tons.

“A 12-thousand ton terminal has become operational and the construction of a 35-thousand dock is on the agenda,” he added.

Torkan made the remarks after visiting different parts of Kish Island. Managing Director of Kish Free Zone Organization Dr. Ali Asghar Mounesan was among KFZO officials accompanying him during the visit.
