Kish Island and Iran welcome a World Tour event for the first time
Kish Island, Iran, January 19, 2016 - The 2015/2016 edition of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour resumes with the Kish Island Open in Iran from February 15-19 on one of the most beautiful islands in the Persian Gulf.
Registration for the event is open since December 21 and 65 teams from 23 countries have confirmed their interest so far. Iran and Kazakhstan have signed up a record seven teams each. The event has clearly attracted a lot of interest and the list of participants will be finalized shortly before the event, with 32 teams grouped into eight four-team pools.
Palm trees and other exotic vegetation welcome numerous tourists to Kish Island every year. Facilities include a choice of hotels and resorts, amusement parks and recreational areas, a 70 km cycling track, horse riding, karting, scuba diving and jet skiing. Tourists can also visit the island’s ancient ruins of Harrireh.
The Kish Island sports complex has already hosted several beach volleyball competitions, including three editions of the Asian-Pacific Beach Volleyball Tour between 2007 and 2010. It has been rebuilt specially to host the World Tour and includes four courts, including one with a capacity for 1500 spectators, and features designated areas for VIPs, television cameras, referees and other official staff, making it a true center for beach volleyball.
