Iranian, Foreign Tourists Throng Kish for Vacation

Kish Island, January 4, 2016- A large number of Iranian and foreign tourists have travelled to Kish amid tourism boom in the Persian Gulf island during the New Year’s vacations.

According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of Kish Free Zone, 4,149 foreign tourists from across the world traveled to Kish from December 22 to December 31.

The figure shows a 10% year-on-year increase.

Meanwhile, some 41,000 Iranian tourists flew to Kish for vacation during the same time.

The number of Iranian tourists visiting Kish island increased 11% in comparison to the same period last year.

More than 120,000 foreign tourists have flown to Kish Island for vacation over the past nine months. The figure shows a 24% year-on-year increase.

Kish is a beautiful resort island located in the Persian Gulf in southern Iran. Due to its free trade zone status it is touted as a consumer's paradise, with numerous malls, shopping centers, tourist attractions, and resort hotels.

It is seen as a haven for tourists as foreign nationals wishing to enter Kish Free Zone from legal ports are not required to obtain visas prior to travel. Valid travel permits are stamped for 14 days by Kish airport and Kish port police officials.

Kish Island was ranked among the world's 10 most beautiful islands by The New York Times in 2010.
