Kish Island, September 27, 2016- The deputy secretary-general of the municipal government of the Chinese port city of Shenzhen says the modern facilities available in Kish will turn the Persian Gulf island into the economic hub of Iran.

According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of Kish Free Zone Organization, Lee Shin Wei made the remark during a meeting with high-ranking officials from Kish Free Zone Organization.

Heading a delegation including municipal officials from the Chinese city of Shenzhen, the Chinese Lee Shin Wai was briefed on Kish investment opportunities.

“Given its modern airport and harbor facilities as well as appropriate infrastructure, Kish can turn into Iran’s most important tourism, trade, and business hub,” said the Chinese official, emphasizing that developing such facilities is a key step in attracting more international tourists and investors into the Persian Gulf island.

The ground has already been prepared for expanding trade ties with Iran during the post-sanctions era, he noted.

“Thanks to the open political environment, the ground has already been prepared for expanding interaction between Iran and the international community and the path for developing the country as well as its free zones including Kish, has been paved,” said Lee Shin Wai.

He said Shenzhen city, comprising a 2,000 square kilometer area, with a population of 20,000,000, can serve as a good model for developing the infrastructure of Kish island.

Shenzhen is a major city in Guangdong Province, China. It is seen as one of the fastest-growing cities in China. The port city is a major financial center and hosts one of the busiest container ports in the world.

The Chinese official also praised KFZO’s special consideration to protecting the environment and said similar measures have been taken in Shenzhen to safeguard the environment.

Meanwhile, the director of Shenzhen harbor development company pointed to the great potentials for developing Kish harbor and voice his company’s preparedness to cooperate with KFZO in this regard.

He said the company has already started talks on constructing harbors in several countries including Iran, Egypt, and Indonesia.

Several proposals including signing joint MOU between KFZO and Shenzhen, appointing a representative to expand ties between KFZO and Shenzhen municipalities, setting up new flight routes between Kish and Shenzhen operated by Kish Airline, boosting tourism attractions in Kish via establishing modern recreational parks in Kish coastline, as well as inviting Chinese representatives from Shenzhen to take part in the upcoming exhibition on Kish investment opportunities, were discussed in the meeting between KFZO official and the Chinese delegation.
