Kish Hosts Expert-Level Meeting on Food Security
Kish Island, October 2, 2016- An expert-level meeting on food security has been held on the sidelines of the 1st edition of the international exhibition on food industries, known as Kish Foodex 2016.
According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of Kish Free Zone Organization, experts, officials, as well as activists involved in food industry took part in the meeting which was held at Kish international convention center.
The lecturers, including academicians specializing in the food industry and programming, delivered speeches on several issues related to food industry including challenges and opportunities facing food industry, diet planning, food security, environmental challenges, as well as climate change.
Dr. Rashidi, one of the keynote lecturers of the meeting, described access to adequate and diverse food supplies as a key element of food security in maintaining a healthy life.
Dr. Mohammadi Nasrabadi, one of the other lecturers of the meeting, pointed to climate change as one of the challenges facing food security.
She said such threats can be tackled via raising public awareness about climate change and applying effective agriculture methods.
Dr. Haji Faraji, another lecturer of the meeting, delivered a speech on the role of the food industry in changing food patterns and behaviors in the society.
The expert-level meeting was held on the sidelines of Kish Foodex 2016.
The first edition of Kish Foodex, an international exhibition featuring food industry and related industries, kicked off in Kish island on September 28 and was underway until October 1.
The exhibition showcased the food products produced by top domestic and foreign producers.
Dr. Jirofti, Kish Free Zone Organization manager for investment and commercial affairs was one of the KFZO officials taking part in the meeting on food security.
During his speech, he reiterated that KFZO makes its best to prepare the ground for the presence of producers and investors via holding exhibitions like Kish Foodex 2016.
He said Kish island is known as a tourism hub while it has great business advantages that can attract investors and producers.
