73,000 Tourists Visited Kish Island Last Week

Kish Island, February 15, 2015- Kish Island witnessed an unprecedented record in receiving tourists with 73,000 people visiting the Persian Gulf Island last week

According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of Kish Free Zone Organization 73,000 tourist visited the island between February 7th and 13th setting an unprecedented record this time of the year, a month ahead of Norowz (New Persian Year) high season.

The presence of so many tourists is seen as a record high during the past 20 years.

Some 100 flights are operated in and out of Kish Island every day, indicating tourism boost in the Persian Gulf Island.

Earlier this week, Managing Director of Kish Free Zone Organization Dr. Ali Asghar Mounesan described expansion of trade and tourism as two major missions topping agenda of KFZO and said 1.8 million tourists visit the picturesque island every year.

 "Based on a comprehensive plan, we intend to increase the figure to 6.5 million within 10 years," said KFZO head.

Kish is a beautiful resort island located in the Persian Gulf in southern Iran. Due to its free trade zone status it is touted as a consumer's paradise, with numerous malls, shopping centers, tourist attractions, and resort hotels.

Kish Island was ranked among the world's 10 most beautiful islands by The New York Times in 2010.

It is seen as a haven for tourists as foreign nationals wishing to enter Kish Free Zone from legal ports are not required to obtain visas prior to travel. Valid travel permits are stamped for 14 days by Kish airport and Kish port police officials.
